Tensions is high in El Wak
District, between the Gharri people and their shegats
On December 27, 2007, over 200 hired gangs started fighting
indiscriminately against unsuspecting Gharri people without notice when
they sensed that their candidates were about to loose. They began
beating unsuspecting people, burning homes, and throw explosive objects
at Honorable Billow Kerow’s home and injuring over 10 people there
including Hon. Billow Kerow. Subsequently, five people were killed, 25
injured, and over 35 homes were burnt to ground. According to
information received from Rhamo, the area police personnel have began
beating up victims rather than assisting them. They sprayed live bullets
and decapitated three people’s legs. Also, they
are still terrorizing the Gharri people in Rhamo forcing people to leave
their homes. As a result, many homes and Gharri owned businesses were
looted by gangs that were hired by Adan Mohamed Noora, paid by Adan
Charri and the Dido group.
According to eyewitness accounts, Adan Mohamed Nora, Abdulqadir Chito,
three members of the Dido families are in Rhamo, along with their Degody
allies. It was said that they have slaughtered meat camels and are
celebrating what they called a victory celebration. In addition, they
have ordered their supporters to do the same in El Wak, and now it has
been reported that singing, and dancing has taken place there.
