Jijiga,
April 20, 2006 (WIC) - The Jijjiga customs office said close to 356 million birr
has been earned from agricultural products exported through the Jijjiga check
point during the last nine months.
Office Head, Amare Gebre-Mariam, told WIC today that
the stated amount of money was earned in foreign currency from the export of
12.2 million kilograms of chat, 25,053 live animals and 678,00 liters of milk to
Somaliland.
According to the Head, the earning has steadly been
increasing from year to year mainly because of the increase in the number of
exporters, who export quality and quantity agricultural products, and the due
attention given to export trade by the government. He pointed out that the
amount of foreign currency earned during the period has increased by 14.3
million birr.
The income earned from export of live animals and
produces of animals has in particular shown fast growth in a short time as it
has reached 28.2 million during the past nine months.
