The Gharri militias are
battling the Oromo bandits in Southern Ethiopia to prevent cattle
rustlers and to safe guard nearby communities from attack.
On Wednesday February 4,
2009, the Oromo bandits raided Gubba Eddi village, located in Moyle
District, Western Gharri Region killing one two year old child and
injuring a woman. The latest attack brought the number of dead to three
from the Gharri and five from theOromo bandits in the area.
In the past few weeks, on
and off sporadic cattle rustlers have cause a heavy toll on the border
communities from both the Oromo and the Gharri side. According to
information received from Moyale, all herd communities in the area have
fled to a safer area further east thereby abandoning their villages.
