Brief From Moyale district, Western Gharri Region, Ethiopia
on
July 31, 2009, two Oromo herders were ambushed and killed by unknown
gunmen in Arero district. Also, there is an unconfirmed report coming
from Huddet District indicating that one Gharri herder was killed and
one injured on August 01, 2009. we will let you know as soon as the
latest information becomes available.
Mandera, Gharri District: Central Gharri region, Kenya
On July 30. 2009, Mr. Abdi Jibo was re-elected as the Mandera County
council Chairman. It was said that Mr. Jibo and his opponent Mr. Yusuf Adan
Abdi were engaged in a contentious and costly campaign. But, the outcome
was very close and Mr. Jibo won by only two votes.
according to information received from Mandera, Mr. Abdi Jibo's opponent
Mr. Yusuf Adan Abdi was amongst the 24 nominated councilors who were
contested for the county council chairmanship seat but, lost. So, subsequently, he was removed from councilman
ship. Furthermore, all the other nominated councilors who voted before
were re-appointed as councilors, will be removed and now, the
authorities are interviewing their replacements.
