The Moyale district
demarcation conference has completed. ( GSG ) has learnt that the Somali
and Oromo regions presidents and other officials came to Moyale to
decide on who should administer Moyale District and determine the
boundary between the Gharri and the Borana administrative areas in the
district.
However, According to information received from Moyale, the two
presidents agreed to divide the city by its main asphalt road connecting
Kenya and Ethiopia, but, is was said that the Borana leaders failed to
agree on the issues saying that the Moyale district and its surrounding
administrative areas are theirs, that the Gharri people should go back
to Somali where they came from. However, despite the Borana’s objection,
the Gharri officials agreed to reach a peaceful coexistence and
demarcate the district according to the official’s determination and
findings.
Both region’s presidents reached a final solution and made joint
statements regarding peaceful coexistence, that if either parties
engaged in anti peace elements such as looting, and killing of any
persons then, the responsible party will be branded as O.L. F. and O.N.
L. F. and be punished by the government.
Therefore, the said conference concluded and was satisfactory to both
region administrators, and its officials have left Moyale and they will
be expected to render their findings and conclusions to the prime
minister’s office within a few weeks. So, we will let you know as soon
as the information becomes available to us.
