A killing and counter killing has claimed 8
lives
According to information received from Moyale,
Western Gharri Region, two weeks ago, the Borana
clansmen killed a Gabra man near El Orba near
the Arero-Huddat borderline. That same week, the
Borana were accused of kidnaping a 5 years old
Gharri female infant from Garbi near Wachile.
Again, subsequently, a Borana man was killed and
two others were kidnapped by the Gharri
clansmen.
The Gharri community leaders and administrators’
from Borana, Gabra and the Gharri met in Wachile
and drafted an agreement to avert further
bloodshed and to enforce prior peace accords and
agreed to round up all anti peace elements
regardless of which clans they belong. The
agreement says, if the perpetrators are from
Gharri, he must be captured and hand him over to
the victims area administrators and or vice
versa. As a result of that agreement, two Borana
clansmen were released on November 17, 2011 and
the Borana community leaders were also, asked to
return the 5 years old infant that was kidnapped
allegedly by the Borana.
The phase to meeting was scheduled on November
18, 2011 at Wachile, but, before, the scheduled
meeting took place, a Gharri man was killed and
another seriously wounded at Chari. The Borana
were blamed for the latest killing. Upon hearing
the latest news, a group of women mobsters
killed two young men believed to be from the
Borana Clan.
According to latest information received from
Moyale, one Borana herder was killed and two
were injured near Borbor, in Borana Zone. So,
when will all these senseless killing stop?
The violence will not stop
unless a peace accord or agreement is enforced
and put to work and those perpetrators receive
an ultimate punishment. Otherwise, as long as
the collection of the so called blood money is
continued, and anti-peace elements criminals
from the Borana, Gabra and the Gharri remain
roaming free, any future peace talk will remain
meaningless. The criminals will continue to
strike because; there is no consequence for
killing innocent people.
