On September 01, 2012 gunmen ambushed
federal police officers a few miles
northwest of Moyale town and killed two
officers.
The two officers were not
alone at the time of the incident, and there
are no report of any injuries to the other
officers onboard the vehicle. Only the two
victims were hit. The rest of the police
officers fought back, but the gunmen
escaped. Subsequently, the authorities
blocked off the area and
followed gunmen’s footprints to a nearby
village and arrested four men.
However, it is unclear whether or not the
four men were directly involved in the
shooting or just being accessories to a
crime against the government personnel. A
day earlier, the Moyale residents were in
the streets rallying for peace amongst all
its neighbors, but less than 12 hours later
two federal police officers were gun down by
unknown assailants believed to be from the
Borana Community.
Also,
a private passenger vehicle was attacked by
gunmen believed to be from Degodia at Gubba
Boola, Near Malka Bidiru, in Chilako
District. No injuries have been reported.
This incident comes at the time where all
the Gharri and Degodia officials were
engaging in a peace conference at Awassa,
southern Ethiopia. We will let you know more
